From 19 sections in the area between the Oberrhein and the town of Aalen about 350 samples have been collected, another
two sections in Southern France at the Truc de Balduc, and one in Franconia near the village of Unterstürmig. Additional samples are from cores of 19 boreholes drilled for industrial purposes (BEB Schwäbische Alb no. 1001 to 1019).
All micropalaeontological literature since 1839 concerning the German Liassie is listed completely.
Various preparation methodes for hard bituminous shales and marly shales are shown and discussed considering
their advantages and disadvantages. New and own methods have led to rather astanishing results.
In the Lower Toarcian of Southwest Germany, from beds of the uppermost Pliensbachian and from the transition
beds of the Lower to the Upper Toarcian the whole microfaunas consist of fish teeth and debris, gastropods, bivalves,
sponge spicules, radiolarians, 63 species of ostracodes, and 190 foraminiferal species (including 22 agglutinated, 5
miliolid, and 163 calcareous species, mainly primitive nodosariids).
